Fat Tire Route
The fat tire route will begin at the same starting line as everyone else, by the flagpole at Memory Lake Park. Racers will start off on the same 4 mile run route marked within the trails at Memory Lake Park. Upon exiting the wooded area, and approaching the bridge at the park, racers will then travel the first 4 miles of the regular bike route and finish at Phantom Lake. This is an 8 mile bike route vs the 19 full triathlon bike route. From there, the paddle and run routes are the same as the regular route.
The paddle is around 2 miles and is a full loop. Large yellow buoys mark the course, and we have patrol boats in the water. Volunteers have your kayak ready for you at the landing when you arrive (we radio ahead your bib number which matches your kayak) and help you in and out of the water.
The run is 8 miles and includes about 2 miles of pavement, half mile of gravel, 1.5 miles of sand and 4 miles of cross country trails with a few hills. The run starts at Phantom Lake in Crex Meadows at the paddle transition and finished in Memory Lake Park.
